Social Notes by Jetpack

Jetpack, by Automattic.

Jetpack, a performance and growth tool for WordPress, has introduced a new feature called Social Notes. These are a type of post that allows users to express their thoughts without worrying about format or titles, essentially enabling microblogging within a blogging platform. The micro posts can be shared across a user’s connected social networking accounts. This helps to keep people engaged with a WordPress website by sharing spontaneous thoughts and ideas.

As someone who struggles with blogging, I often find myself posting whatever comes to mind at the moment. This lack of restraint leads me to delete posts I later find cringeworthy, resulting in infrequent blogging. Social Notes, however, allow me to share my thoughts in the same way I would on Facebook or Mastodon. This feature reduces the pressure I feel to produce high-quality posts. Since Social Notes do not require titles, I don’t worry about impacting my SEO score with title keywords. I can simply share my thoughts with minimal impact on my webspace.

On my webcomic sites, posts are only for comic pages. This limitation means I can’t blog without disrupting the flow of my stories. Using Social Notes for my comics allows me to blog without interrupting the narrative pace of my comic stories.

I’m pleased that Jetpack introduced Social Notes. It makes me feel more comfortable sharing my thoughts on my websites without the added pressure of compliance.
