Missouri Murders Man
Marcellus Williams was murdered by the state of Missouri on September 24, 2024, at 6 pm CST. Mr. Williams was wrongfully charged with the death of Felicia Gayle. Despite appeals from his defense team, the prosecution, and the family of the deceased to stay the execution, Governor Mike Parson denied an extension. The case reached the Supreme Court of the United States, which, in a 6-3 vote, also denied the extension.
I am not qualified to speak on the Black experience in the United States, but I recognize the long history of injustice, exploitation, and violence against African Americans. There seems to be no logical justification for Mr. Williams’ execution other than racial indifference. This indifference underscores the necessity of movements like Black Lives Matter.
I am both sad and disappointed. I mourn the state-sponsored killing of an innocent man and am disheartened that my skepticism about our society has been reinforced. This is wrong and this is state sponsored murder.
